Why do I have to drive to Richmond to get to a Publix? Stupid DC... I need some Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits and Mango Key Lime Pie to solve my case of the Mondays.

Yep, but you have to get there early before the retirees get hold of them. And yes, the sandwiches are pretty good too.

I had no idea Publix had made it that far north. One day soon, Safeway and Giant shoppers will know what it’s like to find good groceries at reasonable prices sold by people without a soulless 1000-yard stare.

Exactly, at least there’s a few Wegmans around, but it’s not the same.

We’ve finally got Publix in NC now and, wow, that store is life changing. Chicken tender sandwich? Yes. Big yes.

Grocery shopping in the DC area is an exercise in going to a bunch of different stores because no one store has close to everything you want for a decent price. The traffic and no more Woodman’s were two of the biggest items on my list of reasons not to move here from Madison, but neither was reason enough to not move.

They just came to Richmond last year. I applied to work there after I heard about their benefits. They wouldn’t (not couldn’t, but wouldn’t) match my pay so I lost interest.

Yep, it sucks having to go to multiple stores or out to Wegmans. And customer service is awful everywhere. I enjoy seeing employees lecture customers, just abandon their posts, and socialize with their friends while you wait.
I did get a good chuckle when I saw a guy I know works at the Costco HQ warehouse since the dawn of time at the local mega-sucky super-dysfunctional Costco with an “Employee Since 2018" nametag. That’s going to be a fun performance review for some folks.

Supposedly there’s a big new mixed-use development that’s going to be put up near the Twinbrook Metro in Rockville, with apartments and a Wegman’s. This will be very close to me.
There’s actually a pretty nice Food Lion in the same shopping center as my gym, it’s a former Bloom store from when Food Lion tried to have Bloom be their fancy brand. It’s not very big but usually is chill with good prices.
Then we get some stuff at Trader Joe’s, and the almond milk coffee creamer we like is only at Giant, and some of the vegan not-meat we buy on occasion we have to go to Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, MOM’s or this local Rockville place Dawson’s. There’s a Safeway in yet another mixed apartment/restaurants/supermarket building near the Twinbrook Metro but I’ve yet to check it out. I don’t think I’m missing anything. Sometimes in a pinch I’ll hit the Tyson’s Corner Harris Teeter by my office too.
What I don’t get is stores like Food Lion and Giant, while they have some of the frozen vegan stuff, they don’t even sell tofu. I try to remember to get it when I go to one of the Asian markets or Costco. I like buying produce at Great Wall in Rockville, but Costco (in either Wheaton or Gaithersburg) is a nightmare. Otherwise at Harris Teeter or the fancy hippie friendly places it’s like $2.79 per block of tofu which is a whole dollar each more than I was paying at Woodman’s in Madison.
